A couple funny quotes in the midst of a pretty packed day:
1) "A and B can't be here tonight because they're off making meat pies."
~The explanation for why a couple faculty members were absent from the voice department meeting tonight. These two people are performing in Sweeney Todd. Where else but a voice department would you get that kind of excuse and have it be totally understood?
2) "This is from California, the home of Woo Woo."
~The opera workshop professor describing a particular institute that was relevant to the energy flow we worked with in class. "Woo Woo" is his adjective/noun for things that may seem a bit fluffy to some folks. (When singers start talking about energy flow, chakras, and other metaphysical concepts, the Woo Woo divide/skepticism invariably arises.)
3) "Bucketo'fish"
~The phrase used by our once-percussionist-turned-choir-conductor to get the rather large group of singers from the community to nail a complicated entrance. (Each syllable corresponds to a rest with "fish" being the entrance. Bonus points if you can figure out what the rest durations are!)
