A couple of classes today and many odds and ends. My first endeavor (after gentle vocalization to get my voice moving) was to find out what the Outreach class I'm taking was all about. We'll be doing two performances and giving a masterclass this semester, and we can choose whether to take our talents into schools or places for adults. I'm most concerned about the logistical end of things since I don't have a car and since I don't play piano. But there are a couple pianists in the class...perhaps we could combine our visits. In any case, the course material looks both interesting and useful, a discussion of what works and what doesn't in the outreach world. Since I'd love to create an outreach opera company eventually, this seems like a perfect fit for me.
My other class was the first installment of remedial music theory. The TA seems like a comical and laid back guy, so it should be engaging at least. Most of the other students (about 25 or so in the class) had theory throughout their undergrad years, so he tries to keep it moving while still providing the relevant information. If it gets over my head too quickly, I may need to clarify for him that his frequent comments of "I know you've all seen this before" are not entirely accurate.
The rest of the day was comprised of practicing for a pseudo-audition I have tomorrow and running errand after errand after errand. Getting course registration forms signed, talking to my management company about the alarm system that keeps beeping erratically and about the lack of a plumber's visit, dropping off sheet music for my Opera Workshop performance on Friday, buying textbooks, picking up the choral music I'll be singing this semester, redrafting a performance resume (listing stage experience), etc. etc. etc.
Life is lively (not exactly "busy" in consulting terms) and good.
