Had a lovely discussion about French vowels in my coaching today. My professor pointed out that most of understanding French comes from these vowels, which are often quite different from one another. (In Italian, all vowels tend to remain a lot closer together in pronunciation, in a kind of "tube" as it were.) So many French consonants are not pronounced that you spent a lot of energy as a singer making sure your vowels are clear.
This led to his rattling off a phrase that would confuse the heck out of anyone just listening to it:
Le vert ver va vers le vert verre.
The green worm goes towards the green glass.
In pronunciation land, vert=ver=vers=verre.
Ver-y fun :)

Hi Hope:
Try this (forgive my spelling)--
Les chausettes de la archiduchesse -- sont-elles seches, archi-seche?
Try that on your pronunciation teacher.
Bonne chance!

What a great tongue twister! I love it! I'll bring that to my next coaching for sure!
Merci!
